Esther Rabie passed away suddenly in December.  She was a lady of great knowledge and compassion and always had wonderful ideas for us to make at The Centre.

Lisa Kaplan’s lost her grandmother and her aunt.

Alan Weiner’s uncle passed away in Australia.

We also lost some previous members of JSEC:  Sammy Goodlesser of Glendale and Minnie Jappie of Highlands House.  Both spent many years at JSEC.

We wish the families of all the above Long Life.

The Supported Employment Program is up and running under the guidance of Deborah Geffen and a lot of new workers are coming through JSEC’s doors. We wish them all well and hope they enjoy their short stay with us.

Some of the exciting events we have had since the last newsletter have been:

RACE DAY

This was held at the Kenilworth Race Course
in December last year. As always, this was a wonderful event.  Delicious food and good fun was had by all.

PURIM PARTY

The Chaitmans once again gave us a superb Purim party which was held at Rosecourt.  Thanks to Alon for the venue.  Ruth Joffe visited and told us the story of Purim.

THE PICNIC

The Annual Picnic was held in March at Michelle & Seymour Scher’s farm in Durbanville.  The workers, their parents, the committee and staff had the most wonderful day with plenty to eat and drink.

GENERAL

This has been an extremely busy year with orders pouring in.

The Centre is having extensions done and part of this will be the new coffee shop that will be opening soon.  Giftime will also have new premises with lots more space.  They have been very busy preparing for Pesach – so come in and visit.  Please place your orders early.

VISITORS

We were thrilled to once again have a visit from Mark and Lucy Furman from London.  It is always lovely to see them

.

BAKING NEWS

Baking is on hold at the moment as we wait patiently for our new coffee shop.  We will let you know when we are up and running again

ROSECOURT AND VRIENDE HOUSE

Vriende House opened its doors last year and this event was preceded with a kitchen tea and pancake evening.  Sonya Norrie demonstrated how to make pancakes and gave some delicious ideas for fillings.

The house received many lovely gifts.

In December the Annual Braai was held at Rosecourt.  This was a joint braai for both houses.  A most enjoyable evening was held.

Since the opening of Vriende House, the two houses have had socials together.  On a Monday evening, everyone meets at Vriende House for a Bingo evening.  Once a month there is a "theme dinner" as well as a braai.  Two weeks ago we had a "Pizza Evening".  The pizzas were absolutely delicious and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
